Krispy Kreme Port Wakefield Road Opening

Disclaimer: I was given 2 dozen original glazed doughnuts and food on the day was provided free.

The OTR and Krispy Kreme Port Wakefield Road opening was a breakfast and lunch for the CFS and their family. I have huge respect for the CFS – all these volunteers who leave their own homes behind to save other people and their houses. It’s such a noble and self-less thing and it’s touching to see them appreciated for their amazing efforts. OTR has been a huge supporter for the CFS and donated 2 defibrillators to their cause. It’s a really meaningful present as the highest cause of death for firefighters are heart attacks.

The CFS and minister officially opened the Krispy Kreme store by turning on the hot light. The hot light is the giant neon sign and when it’s on, it means you get free original glazed doughnuts fresh off the press.

We got to talk to the SA Manager Mark Higginbottom and it was really interesting hearing about the customers and the business. You see those crazy lines for the store openings and you kind of cringe at how long people have waited. What you don’t hear are the experiences the people have there – how a guy gets a date with a girl from the line or the feeling of accomplishment of the first customer sticking it out and then donating 6 months of his donuts to charity.

Only the Port Rd and Port Wakefield Rd store manufacture donuts. The Port Wakefield Road only produces original glazed and it was mesmorising watching the production line. Did you know they only use SA flours? Did you also know that no one at the SA Krispy Kreme store knows the exact recipe for the donuts? Kinda like Coca Cola and KFCs seven spices.

A really informative event and I love hearing about the concepts behind franchises. Thank you OTR and Krispy Kreme for a wonderful morning and Belinda from BPPR for inviting me.

I remember KK first arrived in Sydney – the queues were crazy! And watching those donuts rotate through the proofer and than flip into the hot oil is still mesmerising!

The best KK donut I had was one while I was waiting in line for the first Sydney store to open! It had just come off the conveyor belt! “D
