Benny’s American Take Away, Blackwood

Benny’s has 3 joints (Blackwood, Morphet Vale and Woodville) since starting out in 2013 – that’s a mighty impressive job. Lucky for you guys with the Woodville store now opened you don’t have to drive down South to get your fix. C and I had a date night and since he lived down South we went on a trip to the Blackwood store. It’s a small joint with a few tables but it’s filled with lovely young staff and an arcade machine! I haven’t seen one of those since I was a kid D:

Starting off with the chicken wings with buffalo sauce where the wings were crispy and deep fried with a juicy, tender meat. The buffalo sauce itself was quite buttery with a slight citric cut. I’m not a big fan of that fatty butter taste so it wasn’t a hit on my side but C really liked it.

We ordered a regular but they made too much fries and in the end gave us a large serve. I thought the chili cheese fries would be a cheesy sauce infused with a bit of heat but it was actually a chili con carne topped over shoe string fries. The beef chili itself was bland with no real punch of flavour. It was saved with the melted cheese clinging to the fries, slices of jalapeno to bring a bit of heat and lashing of sour cream to cleanse the palate. It was pretty much nachos without the nachos now that I think about it.

I wasn’t looking forward to my hotdog but you know what? The Alamo was soooo delicious that I ate my own words. Literally. That hotdog bread was so fresh, soft and fluffy (none of that Wendy’s hotdog business). Oh and that Kransky sausage with its dots of gooey cheese littered throughout the delicious meat. Finding bites of crispy chicken but I felt I had filled my meat quota for the day after the chicken wings and sausage. Peri mayo was also spread over the bread and sprinkled with slices of jalapeno. A delicious hotdog that knocked my socks off and it was my favorite item the whole night. Who knew a hotdog could taste that good?

As you can probably tell by this post that I was quite impressed with these guys – C and I rolled out of this place with C’s usual moaning about regretting that he ate too much. He loves it haha. Friendly, chilled service that gave us generous servings of the food. Oh and that hot dog makes me want to try more of their flavours now. Better stop rambling while I’m ahead – all in all two thumbs up yo!

Food: 3.5/5 – it’s a 3.5 just for the hotdog!
Service: 3.5/5 – friendly and gave us some extra food :)
Atmosphere: 3/5

Haha the number of times we’ve left a place saying that we ate too much is too many to count! I hadn’t heard of this chain before so thanks for this! :D
