McDonald’s Create Your Taste Burgers, Port Adelaide

Disclaimer: I was invited to try the Create Your Taste Burgers at Port Adelaide McDonald’s with food and drinks provided for free.

C has always gone by the principle that McDonald’s food is the average – it’s not amazing but it’s not bad. I completely agree with him but here comes another game changer – gourmet burgers. Yep you heard right. This lets you create your own burger from scratch from a kiosk which is like a giant mobile app. There will be a point where you can do this via your phone and have your favourite burgers saved and you just QR code it for your burger to be made.

So how do you build your burger? You choose your own bun (brioche, baker’s bun or lettuce wrap) and decide out of 5 cheese types. Top this with some gourmet garnishing like guacamole, grilled mushrooms, tortilla strips; add some veggies and sauce (choice of 7 types of sauce) to finish your burger.

The other crazy direction McDonald’s is offering? Actual table service! You pick up your buzzer and your burger will be delivered to your table D:

I went a bit crazy with my creation and just chose all the things I liked (I don’t cope well with choices). My creation was a brioche bun that held an Angus beef patty, jalapenos, tortilla strip, tomato, beetroot, lettuce, swiss cheese, crispy bacon, mushroom; drizzled with special Big Mac sauce. What surprised me the most was the lettuce had a crisp bite, the tomatoes were fresh and beetroot juicy. They have their own station in the kitchen dedicated for the Create Your Taste range where the veggies used here aren’t used in the normal burgers.

C’s creation was a lot more impressive as he had a theme to his burger: Mexican! His creation was made with a bakery bun, guacamole, jalapenos, tortilla strips, lettuce, shaved parmesan, grilled onion and chilli jam. That bakery bun was sooo good with it’s crunchy outside that added a crunch to each bite. Love me some good bread.

I’ve always liked McDonald’s coffee frappe which tastes like awesome iced coffee :)

The burger tasted as good as any other burger joint in Adelaide. Yep I went there. With this new self serve feature, more staff are hired to provide table service which is kinda crazy – this is McDonald’s we are talking about. Whole state roll out is due to be done by June 2015 i.e. all McDonald’s stores in SA will have this Create Your Taste range. Plus they will be introducing a DIY breakfast and dessert aspect in the future. Can’t wait to see what’s instore for McDonald’s – they are catching onto the burger trend at the right time.
