Sushi Bar Genki, Adelaide

Some days I can come up with a place to eat at lighting speed but most times I’m browsing Urbanspoon and researching for a while before I can decide. For once I was able to decide quite fast on Sushi Bar Genki which may have been because I saw that they have some new ramen types :D It’s always good to see them bring a bit of Japan like with their ordering system via an iPad – less social contact for the hermits.

Yay more ramen options have been added since my last visit :D I was very excited to try the tonkotsu shoyu ramen as it is my favourite type. So how did this stack up? The cloudy tonkotsu broth was just packed with pork flavour and slurping this up with melt in your mouth pork belly made me struggle to keep the conversation going. Curly ramen noodles were chewy but still had a bit of bite; garnished with a lovely ramen egg that was a bit sweet and a bit soy AND A BIT RUNNY (am I the only one excited?), juicy bamboo shoots and nori sheets – you can feel how much effort is put in with everything single element tasty and they’re not skimping you on anything. I went during a ramen lunch special time where this came with a side of crispy, juicy fried chicken at no extra cost :D

D got the katsudon lunch set that came with so many side dishes at only $13.80. I’ve tried the katsudon on a previous visit and it’s one of those traditional dishes that Sushi Bar Genki does good. Crispy deep fried pork cutlet mixed with a cooked egg and onions on top of a bowl of rice – Asian schnitzel anyone?

Ooooooh! I haven’t been to this place, must go and check it out as we’ve been craving decent ramen since leaving Japan.

Haha yes it’s hard to find a decent ramen in Adelaide but I quite like the one here – I hope you like it too :)

Agreed – it was some good comfort food. Love me a good katsudon and I’m glad in Australia we have katsudons that taste like Japan :D
