The name Hummingbird Bakery is in the same league as Magnolia Bakery which makes me so curious how a cupcake bakery can become so famous? Found some time to drop by the store in Notting Hill which was a take away store (not really eat in friendly as there was only a small bench with a few seats).
Ahh cupcakes, why must you all be so beautiful? There’s always a spot for vanilla cupcakes in my heart because there’s not much to hide from a simple thing done well. A sweep of lovely vanilla buttercream that was finger licking good and not too sweet. Sadly the vanilla cupcake was a tad dry and a bit too crumbly and not light and fluffy like I love them.

Their signature red velvet cupcake was topped with a sweet cream cheese frosting on a slightly dry cupcake – not bad but sad to see the cupcakes not really moist.

The black forest cupcakes had a moist chocolate cupcake with a dollop of cherry jam in the middle and a sweet custard-like frosting. Maybe I chose the wrong type of cupcake and chocolate cupcakes are the way to go?

Cupcakes weren’t bad but they weren’t amazing either – for such a reputation I guess I was expecting more than being average. To be honest I prefer the BTS cupcakes we have here – their cupcakes aren’t dry.
