Jamaica Blue has teamed up with Lindt chocolate to create 3 decadent desserts. In Adelaide there are only two Jamanica Blue stores (Westlakes and Noarlunga) but I spy with my little eye a new store in Rundle Mall to open soon. I went to the Westlakes store with food and drinks kindly provided by Jamaica Blue and Verve Communications but this does not influence my opinion on my posts. I’m not a coffee snob but it’s hard to find a mocha that I don’t hate. Jamaica Blue surprised me – my cup of mocha was quite yum :) On to the food!
Surprisingly the dark chocolate and pumpkin loaf was my favourite out of the 3. I expected it to taste sweet with a bread-like texture but both of these assumptions were wrong. Instead it was crumbly like biscuit with subtle hints of cinnamon. Bites of nutty pecan and walnuts with a lovely dark chocolate hit added a nice contrast in textures. A good choice for the non sweet tooths out there – definitely more savoury than sweet :)
Dark Chocolate and Pumpkin Loaf ($8.50)
French croissant bread and butter pudding – this piped my interest especially the croissant part ;) Gooey custard-like French croissants filled with tangy dates, raisins and melted dark chocolate. The bread and butter pudding by itself was quite eggy and thick but with the scoop of vanilla icecream and milk chocolate it helped lighten the dish up a bit.
French Croissant Bread and Butter Pudding ($10.50)
The chocolate pot was quite hard to catch where I had to come a second time to seal the deal. Even then it was an hour wait as they were preparing more, apparently they make them midday and only 4 at a time. From one touch of the warm cup alarm bells started ringing – huh warm mousse? Well it wasn’t mousse but instead a very runny chocolate custard. You could taste the Lindt chocolate in it but it needed to be refrigerated to develop some sort of texture. The novelty of the edible gingerbread spoons was fun at first but for someone who isn’t a gingerbread fan like me found the gingerbread taste permeating throughout the dish.
