Each time I asked a local where a good place to eat in Freo was the first response is usually Sandrino. Off I trotted to find this place but my first visit left me less than impressed. I had chosen the ravioli pasta dish with it presented like slop and I was surprised with how little was given. Let’s just cut to the chase – bland and salty are the two words that come to mind. The ravioli was stuffed with scallops and prawns but turned out to be flavourless. Any dimension of flavour was from the melted parmesan in the salty saffron cream sauce.

The crab linguini tasted only of pasta with the only plus being the juicy crab meat. It might be because my palette can’t detect saffron but then again there was no hint of garlic, basil or chilli in the dish either. The bright side was that at least they gave me enough food to make me full on my second visit.

Apparently $28 for pasta is considered cheap in Perth – just shocked about the quality of what is considered good food. I may have been swayed with the fact that I had chosen saffron based meals which for some bizarre reason my taste-buds are dead for. The service itself was poor – I asked for the bill and the waiter told me to go up and do it at the counter yet on my second visit when I was with a group of people and we asked for the bill we bloody got the bill.
