Nakamura Tokichi (中村藤吉) has been around for 150 years, well-known for not only their tea but also their desserts. I went to visit their main store on my trip to Uji (where the best quality green tea in Japan is from). This was our last stop in Uji which S really wanted to try. Ok I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty much on a caffeine high after a whole day of just matcha tea, matcha soba, matcha soft serve, you catch my drift. By the time I arrived here I was a bit matcha-ed out but no regrets – one of the best dessert places I’ve been to!
Uji cold zenzai came with a matcha sauce to pour over the sweet matcha ice-cream and soft glutinous rice balls. The sauce enhanced the bitter matcha flavour which was already to die for.
Uji no fukiyose came with matcha and roasted green tea chiffon cake, complemented by vanilla soft serve, cream and some fruit. The cakes were soft and fluffy with a light tea flavour.
Uji No Fukiyose (780 Yen)
The tea jelly dessert was amazing – especially the rich, creamy matcha ice-cream. It came with quivering matcha jely, sweet red bean paste and chewy glutinous rice balls, all decked out in a frozen bamboo cup
Tea Jelly (Matcha) 790 Yen
Nakamura Tokichi creates amazing matcha infused desserts, with one of the smoothiest and flavoursome matcha soft serve I’ve ever had
