Hi my name is ionlyeatdesserts, and I’m a burger-holic (ironic name I know). My last burger was 2 days ago and I’ve stalked burger theory for more than a year. I think I may have a problem now that they’ve opened a restaurant 10 minutes away from me, I don’t know how to contain this any further. Burger theory junkies unite!

For all those that know me, I was more than addicted to burger theory last year. You might have seen the mad run from uni to the truck when meetings finished late, finding out on facebook that they are having a special appearance in an hour which resulted in my hectic texting to organise with friends. The burger is mindblowingly good, the meat patty is very tasty and juicy. Even the lettuce was amazing, drenched in meat juices which ended up just tasting like meat (sorry vegetarians).
Burger #1 – Breadtop bun with lettuce, tomato, American cheese and truck sauce ($8)
I decided to pay Pearl’s Diner another visit on the weekend as I didn’t bring my camera the first time I went around a month ago. The store is humble and modest, tucked away in the suburbs. I was expecting a massive line for Saturday lunch but we were lucky to get seated straight away, there were still empty tables D: Maybe people were just staying home watching the Olympics or all the Asians have gone to AVCON?

Boy was I in for a surprise. My go to things, the number 1 burger and the coffee milkshake were so good the first time I went. Initially, I did prefer the burgers at the diner as they weren’t crushed and no juices were running everywhere. The coffee milkshake was perfect, it tasted like caffeneti from Argo’s which is btw my favourite iced coffee. It was creamy, thick yet smooth, with a sweet coffee flavour. On my second visit, the burger and coffee milkshake were only alright, nothing spectacular. It wasn’t to the quality of my first visit and my truck visits.

The number 2 was too salty for me when I tried it at the truck but I picked up some advice about having to smash down the number 2 before you have the number 1. I need to give this trick a go
Burger #2 – Onion confit, pancetta and blue cheese sauce ($15)
I really wasn’t expecting much from the fried chicken as I’ve heard it didn’t taste that great from others. How wrong I was, these were delicious! The crispy batter around the juicy, greasy meat yummo
Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Colesaw ($16)
According to the menu the pork had been smoked for 14 hours. The pork was really soft and combined with the smokey flavour and tomato sauce, it was quite delicious. However, it is incredibly small for the $8 you pay, I could have just gotten another burger from the truck.
Pork Bun ($8)
If you’ve ever seen Burger Theory, you usually see La Waffle nearby. Ok, well to be honest I was never ever a fan of La Waffle. I had gotten one of the waffles from the cart before and I was by far from being impressed. The waffles were just taken out of the packet, re-heated in the waffle maker and plopped onto a plate. The waffle was cold and chewy, not even a crunch. Obviously it wasn’t very fresh either.
Well as you can see I didn’t like La Waffle much but I only described my previous waffle visit in so much detail because I really wanted to emphasise what an impression they made on me this weekend. I literally did a 180 degree take, they had lifted their game so much. I can finally understand what the craze is all about and how awesome it is to have it made fresh off the press. The waffle was warm, dense and soft in the middle while crunchy on the outside. I loved the vanilla ice-cream, you can see the vanilla beans in it Don’t even get me started on the presentation, when I saw it I just wanted to eat it straight away. I had to restrain myself to take a few photos before I gobbled it up.

This was a truly surprising visit in a very good way. A lot of the things I wasn’t looking forward to turned out really tasty. I guess like everything, it really depends on who you get so fingers cross that you get good people that day
